| Remember to check the bearing edges for trueness and seat the heads in before tuning. I initially tighten tension screws down to just past finger tight then press the centre of head in with the hands like giving CPR and listen to the glues cracking. Then back of all screws and start even tightening and tuning.
New heads correctly seated and evenly tuned will make a big and pleasant sound difference to drums that previously had stretched and worn heads. I tune drums on a piece of carpet as it helps reduce the opposite head tones which can create confusion. It will brighten them up and allow finer tuning. |
