Glen Campbell's drummer Just been listening to "Galveston" and "The Wichita Lineman" - haven't heard them for years and never really gave them a proper listen. The drumming bowled me over! The end of Wichita Lineman is full of mid-bar snare fills and interesting phrasing, it's quite subtle but really carries the track. Galveston is also subtle but the pace is just spot on, and the accenting couldn't be better. Just after the line ".... but it don't look like rain" there's a gentle, subtle 8th note snare thing going on just to punctuate the phrase. Great stuff!
Now, can anyone tell me who that drummer is? I've had a quick search and think it may be Hal Blaine.... anyone able to confirm? Time to listen to more.....
BTW, for those familiar with Tortoise and John McEntire / John Herndon's drumming, I now see where they got some of their inspiration. You'll see what I mean. |
