What kind of sound are you looking for? What kind of music do you play? Alot of good drummers can get away with 5 or 6 cymbals. I play 14" hats, thin crash, medium crash, 12" splash and 2 rides. Just don't overdo it or the crowd will never see the master behind the sound!
