Double Bass Questions So I've watched Jared Falk's DVD on Double Bass (impressive) and went out and bought the DW 9000s (not impressed). I've finally been able to do heel/toe on my right foot and have begun working on the left. However, I have a few questions I hope you guys can help me out on.
1. I can only do quick double with the heel/toe on my right foot. My sound is currently like this ba bam -pause- ba bam..... Are drummers able to do that consistently to make it sound like constant 8th or 16th notes on one foot? Hope that makes sense.
2. I seem to only be able to really play my bass using the heel up method. It is better to play heel down for control and speed? Do I just need to get through it and play heel down? I've noticed balance issues using heel up.
3. As I have begun to learn to play with my left foot on the bass pedal using the heel/toe method. I notice it is super easy to do if I have my heel come down on the base of the pedal.....not the heel support where most drummers rest their foot. However, I don't play this play using the right foot. I can't explain it, but I am very frustrated with the feel of the left pedal. The response sucks....but they may just be because my left foot sucks atm.
4. Do most double bass drummers use the heel down or up method. I hear the drummers who are decently fast and wonder.
5. Lastly, when you hear a drummer do VERY fast multiple movements on one bass pedal, is he most likely doing a heel down , heel up, or able to do what my question is in #1?
Thanks for everyone's input. |
