I think it depends but the image of a drummer is probaly a punkish playboy - like Travis Barker
so if you dont look like him people will not think youre a drummer. |
I seen a drummer once that actually made me angry. I have been playing for thirty odd years and consider myself an eternal student. However, when I walked into that club that night, I heard a "drummer" of a classic rock cover band being only able to play a total (and I counted) of 3 different styles of beats. None of which were any good. It was plain awful. He had a really nice set of drums. He had long hair. He could pose and make faces. He even put a drumstick between his teeth several different times. Now, he certainly had the look of a "drummer". However, he lacked even the basic fundamentals that most of us have had to learn through practice after practice as well as watching someone of better skills humble us through a schooling performance. That guy insulted me and every other genuine drummer through his obvious parody. Escalade, I know you already know this, but never put the cart before the horse. Looks and showmanship are not as important as chops, technique and feel. The "drummer"
look should come afterwards.
