I always played Pro Mark 5a's or 7a's, recently my friendly drummer adviser from Music Works here in West Auckland pointed out a new size (for me), it are Tama's American Hickory 8A!! They are somewhere between 5A and 7A, a bit different, with wooden tips.
I bought them to try out and I love them.
The only thing, they are a bit short, just under 16 inch, for me that is not a big deal because I like compact kits, but for the "expansive" players, they might be too short.
