1979 - Slingerland is sold to Gretsch
1994 - Gibson U.S.A. buys Slingerland name and patents from Gretsch and moves the company to Nashville, Tennessee

From this I'm guessing that Slingerland was discontinued from 1979 - 1994 as it was under the Gretsch name and then revived when Gibson bought it
