Re: your most regretful cymbal purchase? In 2005 I bought a Zildjian Z Custom Rock Crash. It lasted about a month. It looked like a sturdy cymbal, and a lot of people told me it was. First of all. I cracked the edge 3 inches up in one clean hit, second of all the sound was disgusting and no where near what I liked. It had such a strong, dirty sound. It didn't blend with any of my other cymbals. I had a AAX Explosion crash at the time, and Zildjian Z Custom Hats (14"), it sounded horrible. I had spent all my money on it (Because I didn't have a job at the time) and the store wouldn't let me refund it for the reason I gave. So I was stuck with it for that whole month. And in the end - it snapped. I hated that cymbal with a passion, it had such a disgusting sound. And even though it looked so strong, it was weaker than any of my other cymbals. I'm a very heavy hitter, and for some reason I find more comfort in hitting thinner cymbals, they last me longer for some reason.
The best cymbal I had was a AAX Explosion crash (18"). It was beautiful. It lasted me a good year. 6 months after buying it it fell on concrete, hitting the edge during an outside show, it lived another 6 months. I was extremely impressed with that cymbal. |
