When I was in high school band we had an aerosol spray (like spray paint) and it would make the head like new, with the sandpaper type finish. It didn't seem to effect the sound. I like the feel of that type of head. But maybe its beacause I learned to play on that type of head. I wish I could find some of that stuff now. Nobody seems to have heard of it. I can't remember what it was called. Kind of a cheapo way of extending drum head life. If you can't afford to buy drum heads all the time.
