I own a set of Roland V-Drums - and I have to say that I think they are great... for certain situations.

I've played in heaps of cover bands, and electronics are excellent for that - because you can go in, plug straight into the sound desk and you'll get a pretty decent sound every time. With Acoustic drums there are much more complicated stuff to deal with that you need a good sound guy to look after. So if you're playing in a cover band I highly recommend them.

If I was playing Jazz or Acoustic music at all... then I'd steer well clear of them. I also didn't find them great for teaching on, because I couldn't get the students to produce a good sound, and they were fundamentally different from what the student was practicing on at home, so that made it difficult.
