Overtones when tuning. Any clue what I"m doing wrong?

I've watched videos, read tutorials, everything I can think of, and I'm having trouble getting a good sound. Most of the time I'm getting over tones. Even on my snare, I'm in my living room and just got a new head. Tuned it, following a video and reading the aquarian guide. Seemed pretty straight forward. The snare itself sounds good (When I hear the snares vibrate) but I hear a low *doing in a high pitch. I hear it when I've tuned my toms in the past. Any clue where I'm going wrong? I'm going in a start pattern, and being carefull about tuning them evenly.

Thanks

Oh, had my first lesson today and glad I went. I'm basically starting over and learning the moeller method of hitting, I keep reverting back at times, and he has me playing heel up, so it threw me off quite abit.
