Re: Bass Drum Help

If the problem is too much ringing when you take out the dampening, one way to reduce the ring, without greatly reducing the volume is to put a port in the resonating head. You can buy rings that reinforce the port hole, and it's pretty easy to take the head off and cut the hole with an exacto knife. If you don't want to cut a hole in the resonating head try dampening only the resonating head. You can buy a bass drum head with a dampaning ring, or roll up a towel and put it just against the reso head. It is easier to play with the amount of dampaning if you cut the port, then you don't have to take the head off everytime you want to adjust the dampening.
