In my recording custom in the 80's, live and studio I used nothing in my big twin 24's. It kicked serious a@@. There were 2 12" mic holes in the resonant side.

In my Stage Custom kit (current), I use a body pillow folded in half so the double side hits the batter, and the fold is on the resonant. It's a 22" and there is no mic hole, as I only play in my basement ......as of now until I can convince the bride that playing out doesn't mean I am leaving home..........Though my drums don't talk back!
