What brand, material and size bass drum do you have? What is the material of your beater, and where on the head does it hit. Also, where is your heel when you push on your bass drum pedal? My son who is just learning plants his heel on the pedal. He therefor gets no volume, control, feel, or sweetspot. Let us know what you do. (I stick a hockey puck under his heel to help him learn to raise it. He gets more control).

I have a Yamaha SC with no hole in the reso side and a 4 foot long body pillow folded in half so it touches both heads equally and my bass drum, though muffled with a nice wet punch, it shakes the house. It's a 22" with stock Yamaha (Remo) heads and a stock felt beater. Let us know what you have and we might help you acheive what your looking for.
