Welcome to the board!! You can't go to wrong with the Gretsch Reknown line. I've got a set of Gretsch Catalina's that I'm very happy with, and the Reknown are the next step up form that. There are lots of choices, what type of wood is the shell pack on the reknown set you're looking at. I know a lot of people are recommending Birch for recording, but I'm sure with the right studio set up you can make most any drum record well.
