I play Yamaha drums. I play 3 kits and they are.

1, Yamaha Club Custom Birch/Mahogany with 20" kick (circa 1990)
2, Yamaha Absolute kit, 22"maple bass, 10' birch tom, 13" beech tom, and a 16"birch tom. (1997)
3, Yamaha Oak Custom drums. 22" bass, 10" tom, 12"tom, 14" tom. Great drums at a great price.

I think for the money Yamaha is right up there with the best of them. The craftsmanship is great. I love the YESS mounting system it's so easy to setup your kit.

The drums tuned properly sound great. Just look at their artists roster.
Hi........wow....three sets. I assume you pick and choose depending on the type of music you're playing.
I am with you in that I am thrilled with my Yamahas. When I bought my set, I was (still am) determined to bust my cherry on jazz. I am 54 yrs. old and even though that doesn't necessarily mean I can't play any other type of music, I envision myself spending my retirement years playing jazz with friends in maybe a house type gig or around town. Right now I feel so far from it because I haven't found the cats with whom to play yet but I am faithfully practicing my drums, learning the language of jazz the best I can.

My set up is :
1 10" rack mount tom
1 12" rack mount tom
1 14"X14" floor tom
1 16"X18" bass drum
1 13" Zildjian Master Sound Hi Hats
1 22" Zildjian K Constantinople Medium Thin Lo Ride
1 21" Zildjian Sweet Ride
1 22" Zildjian Hi Definition Ride
1 18" Zildjian Crash
1 16" Zildlian Crash

I feel that I have my range of cymbals covered. I love the way they all sound in concert with one another. They really match each other very well, carrying higher and lower tones and everything else in between.

I am about to put some Earthtone goat skin heads on the the drums because I've heard awesome incredible things about them. Ever heard of them? comments......?
Suggestions on other avenues besides playing to records (cd's) for becoming the master of the drums I so desire to be? I am a willing student believe me!

Oh, I almost forgot.........my snare drum is a Yamaha Absolute Custom Maple Snare 14X5.5, the best snare drum I've ever owned!
