| Get a drum shield. My 2 year old loves to play on daddy's kit but he goes around to the front of the kit to try to climb up the cymbol stands. The shield I bought is 5' 6" tall x 2' with 5 panels total. Great for small stages and it came in handy when the kid's hanging around the kit. The shield is sturdy enough to withstand him pushing up against it.
