Recent spam activity

Well I don't know about the rest of you guys, but the recently FLOOD of spammers has been pretty discouraging to say the least. My email inbox is slammed with posts about nothing in threads that are 2+ years old and its getting pretty old.

So, I know there are only 2 mods and if you guys are busy or away for a weekend things can get out of hand quick--any ideas about making more mods to help regulate in your absence?

The regular posters and "older" members (like 6+ months) seem to have disappeared during the influx of spammers and activity is minimum. The reason they post in the forum is because their posts automatically get forwarded via email to every member who has written or subscribed to that thread, and they increase their exposure via keyword search on the search engines. So they didn't have to "buy" your email address for their ad campaign--they had the forum do the work for them.

I've looked at other drum forums and the smaller ones seem to be fighting the same set of spam posters--or at least it is the same group of people cuz the spam is almost identical. In one forum all the new posts were by spammers--in every thread. They effectively shut that forum down because eventually members will delete their accounts to stop the spam mails to their inbox... Let's not have that happen here, shall we??
