Reach for your goals and I would suggest getting a DrumDial for tuning if you haven't gotten one already. I helps to get within the tuning spectrum and then you can fine tune the drums. I play a 9pcs Gretsch kit and tuning all of them without this tool, it would take days before i finally get them to sound the way I want.
Maybe your not getting the right spectrum tone from the 12" tom.
