Hi Davey;
I REALLY like drum racks. They clean up the floor around you so there is nothing for those clumsy guitar players to trip over. Mostly, they keep every thing EXACTLY in the same place each time you break down & set up. No more moving this cymbal stand an inch this way or that way. Now for my big?? opinion. My racks are Gibralter. I don't like them for a couple of reasons. It seems ludicrous to take a ROUND pipe & try to clamp something to it & not have it slip around the pipe. Even with all of the memory clamps, everything has to be super tight. They also are a fairly light gauge of metal tubing. So, since you have to squeeze the hell out of the pipe to hold things in place - you get little dents in the pipe. By far the better choice would be Pearls rack system or the new Yamaha octagon rack system. Both of those systems should be far easier to deal with. Another one of the major problems with the round pipe rack is the curved tubing. If you mount your toms etc. to a curved tube, it will tend to want to droop down. Even with a ton of memory clamps. When the Horizontal curved tube droops down - the legs start to move inward or outward from vertical. Every thing goes to Hell. Phooey on round pipe racks.
