I am just trying to picture correctly, your playing open-handed (L) on hi-hat; you wanna fill. If you start with the snare with (L) hand, then tom (R), tom (L), and floor tom (R) leaving it so you can end on 1 with (L) on hi-hat. Now, if you are going from that set-up straight to a tom, I would suggest going right first in-order to prevent cross-sticking (which is why someone tries open-handed in the first place right?). A way to prevent ending with a right on one could be be double tapping the right stick somewhere in you fill? Am I helping at all? Then you would not cross-sticks.
