Re: Master Drummer: Dennis Chambers Through a series of trial and errors, I have found that a video with a world class drummer on it is only as valuable to me as an educational tool if that video and drummer are effective in getting me to understand what it is they are doing and what exercises might I perform or practice to be able to do those things specifically. There are too many "educational" videos which have far more entertainment value than they do educational value. I am not saying that the Chambers video is not a great educational value. I haven't seen it. But I am saying that I have bought a few "educational" videos BECAUSE of the particular drummer giving the seminar but then was disappointed because that master drummer turned out to be not a master teacher. Teaching is a whole other skill besides being able to kill on the drums. I have found the David Garibaldi materials to be far superior to any of the other instructional videos and books I have (besides the universally accepted classics like Stick Control, Syncopation, etc.). And even then, his stuff has more practical application to what I do on a daily basis as a drummer. Just an FYI and buyer beware. |
