I had a 1959 Ludwig Black Onyx Rock kit way back in the days.

I used the Remo Weather Kings. That was the best bang for the buck. And the never went out of tune. Since they were originally design for out door use and temperature differential. They are thick heads and help with the resonance.

As Mr. Der mentioned, they also had the built in adjustable mufflers. I also used the strap type muffler on the bass batter head.
