Yeah, Supraphonics had internal mufflers built into them up to about 1982 or so. I have a 1973 Supra with a muffler.

However, if you want the Bonham sound, I believe he used a regular ol' white coated Remo Emperor. Back in the day, if you didn't use the new fangled black dots, Diplomats, Ambassadors, or Emperors were your only choice. Clear versions of these heads came out about the same time Ludwig Vistalites hit the market.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but I will since this is considered old-skool now, but I'll use either a white coated Ambassador or Emperor on my snare (or the equivalent in Evans, the G1 or G2), and cut out a ring from an old head, about 3/4" to an inch wide. This ring will rest on the outer perimeter on the new drumhead and muffle it just enough to cut out the ring. The cool thing about it is that it bounces up off the head when you hit it hard enough, and rest back down. So you get the drum wide open, and then it muffles itself when the ring comes down.
