I like a 1 up 2 down kit in terms of looks. I'm playing a 6 piece right now, but I like a 4 piece best for playing. I agree that the 4 piece is becoming more popular, bands like Attack Attack and TDWP are really influencing alot of drummers in that genre to break down their kits. I don't know why I first tried a 4 piece, but it makes me the most comfortable of any configuration. Coming in close second is 1 up 2 down, though, like I said. It looks a bit cooler, and that extra floor is better than having another tom instead in a 5 piece just because it has the deeper sound.
