| I was at first a little outraged by his statements. I have worked w/ a shaman in the Peruvian rainforest for the last 10 years and it seemed like an incredibly arrogant statement and attitude. I've never heard of that particular tree (at least the "Ayahuascus" part in the name and it does sound like he is referring to rosewood. On further reflection I do think he was making an obscure joke, especially given the members of Tool's penchant for playing practical jokes. It also doesn't really seem to be in alignment with overall theme of evolving consciousness in their art which also leads me to believe it wasn't meant seriously, but then again you just never know.
