I just wanted to share with you all how they teach drumming in japan.
I think it is really bad how they teach there and I just wanted to see what al of you thought about it.
to start out with I got to watch their drum classes, they teach it just like you would teach a reguler class in school, there is anywhere from 4 to 10 students at a time and they all have those remo hard pad practice drumsets.
they all play the same exact thing together and as far as I could tell were not encorged to experment on their own to come up with new material on their own. I maby could understand very new drummers but then you go to a show to watch a band, and useally there is at least 5 bands that play a night and Ive spoken to some of these guys and they have been playing for 10 or more years, if you recorded the drum part to every song that every band plays you would have almost the same beat for everyone of them, with the exeption of fills and open or closed hi hats it is the same beat,
I know that their society says not act diffrent than anyone else but it is kinda sad because so many of them could have great potintal to be better.
But on one note as an amercian drummer that can play a verity of diffrent music you never have to worry about being out of work there.
BUt I just think it is sad that they are tought to never exspress what they can really do.
