Definitely buy used because you'll save a ton of cash. In my experience it takes a long time to realize exactly the sounds you like in a ride cymbal, crash cymbal and hi-hats. And the brand name doesn't really matter that much. I had a very expensive Zyldian ride for years when I finally realized it was way too high in pitch for my liking. I moved to a very dark sounding Sabian. And it's fun to get used cymbals at rock bottom prices at a second hand store or on the internet and find out what they sound like. Sometimes you get pleasantly surprised. If they sound trashy, you can put two on top of each other to have a neat effects cymbal.
