| It's just a different sound, is the way I look at it. I grew up in an era when concert toms were commonplace (the 1970s), and I did have my drums set up like that for a while many years ago, but it's not generally the sound I want on my drum set. However, I've used concert toms many times in other contexts, specifically in orchestras, percussion ensembles, and wind ensembles back when I was a college student. It's tricky to get a good sound out of them, IMO, but it can be done. |
