| Mate? Just where do you come from mate. I'm from Perth Western Australia, that part of the Mate speaking population.
Anyhow, to answer your question regarding pads, the main object is bounce ie: how much will your stick bounce off the pad.
Standard rubber pads with wood backing will give you heaps of bounce. They are great for getting your chops together and you will hear everything you play on it very clearly.
Most other pads will be made to give a more natural feel. They're a bit more sluggish and replicate the feeling of a drum more.
I'd suggest getting the rubber pad, as it will help you to learn all the fiddly, little things you're trying to pick up sooner and stop you from losing interest.
Speaking of not losing interest, when are you gonna get yourself a kit then? Start looking around at new kits on the market and do some research. Form an opinion on what you want to get started on.
I've personally had lot of experience with the pearl export which has the exact same shells as the pearl forum (it's just a hardware downgrade not that you need to worry about those things at this stage). They've done me pretty well as my forth kit up til now, might be worth a thought.
What kind of music are you into?
P.s. you're also gonna need a metronome. I'd strongly suggest buying an electric one. If your local store doesn't carry cheap electric ones, look around, I picked mine up for the same cost as a standard. |
