| I'm relatively new to drumming, and I'm predominantly going the self taught route. But I did have years of piano lessons as a kid, and I retired as a trombone player from an Army reserve band, so I can read music really well, which I think is a great help going in. I say I'm predominantly self taught but I have a friend / drummer from the Army reserve band who's in the the Drum Corps hall of fame for his drumming and instructing of drum lines. I call him often when I get in a rut, or need drumming advice or help. So I haven't taken formal drum lessons, but I have access to a great resource. Once I get to the point where I don't think I can improve anymore going this route I will start taking formal lessons from him on a regular basis. |
