Prof sound is just one guys theories, and a great place to visit for any learner to get into the tuning and drum selection ball park, but there are so many other concepts as well, take it as a guide and not a bible.
Experimenting with what you have in your hot hand is going to be the crux of it all. Good that you are finding find out as much as you can to make an informed decision before parting with the hootie.

Reason i got med size depths on my kit was mainly so i could get the toms over the 20" kick and close in so i can reach them, due to my small stature.
