| I tend to think that the method you choose should be very dependent on the type of music you are playing. If you are playing a soft ballad or jazz, heel down gives far more fine control. If you need power then heel up with the power & weight will help bring it on. Simply curling your toes as you play the bass will add an amazing amount of drive and punch. These techniques apply to the hi-hat as well. Bottom line-LEARN TO PLAY BOTH WAYS. Then you will learn which one is more usable & comfortable for you--And expanding your ability is what really counts isn't it?? |
