| Many gigs will dictate the amount you can set up as stage space becomes a premium. For this reason (and bass drum slip) i have a floor mat which i place down pre set up to claim my stage space, it is cut to the size my kit fits on. There are ways around more cymbals in less space by using cymbal stackers and inward mounted cymbals. More to the point though is set up time, often there is not much of a window to get set up at some venues, so less gear takes away some of that hassle.
( unless you have a personal roadie/ drum tech that is). I have all of my stands and cymbal arms memory locked, saves a heap of time.
You can cover a lot of ground with minimal quality general purpose cymbals such as Sigs, 2002's A's etc. To the average audiance they just hear something musical ( unless it's a bad cymbal, or bad cymbal choice to play in the wrong place) that accents in the music and likely aren't too concerned or particular whether it was a med thin or whatever, as any drummer does.
Listen to any music in general and see what i mean.
