Here's my 2 cents.
1. I believe that the splash is used much more in most musical application.
2. Small, fast splashes seem to be really hot right now.
3. Nothing matches the sound of a Chinese in the right spot in a song.
4. I really think you need both in your arsenal. I would go for the splash first.
5. I think the Sabian site is cool for sampling. BUT, I would only buy a cymbal that I could walk into a store and hear LIVE. I believe you should NEVER look to see who made it, Just play on the various cymbals, pull down the ones you like.
Then set up one of your cymbals from home & see how the various ones you liked sound with your old one. Most times the results will surprise you.
Last point--Don't be afraid to walk out of the store with NO new cymbals.
Let your own ears be your only judge. Not your friend. Not the label on a cymbal.
