I can't help you on the Gretsch snare. So my info may be mute. I sat in on a blues drummers kit a couple of months ago. He was using a 3 1/2"x 14" PEARL maple piccolo snare tuned way down. He was trying to get it to sound like a
6 1/2" or an 8". I don't think it worked very well. It was like hitting a sponge.
By way of some cheap help to try out a 6 1/2" maple--Music 123 has a VERVE
all maple 9 ply 6 1/2x14" snare for $100 bucks. I'm thinking about trying one out. |
