Primus Drummer Jay Lane Endorses Hammerax Cymbals Hammerax has issued the following press release:
Hammerax has entered into an agreement with drummer Jay Lane to endorse Hammerax cymbals and percussion.
"We're really excited to have Jay on board, says Hammerax president John Stannard. His extraordinary style and technique will make a great addition to our team."
Primus embarked on an extensive tour beginning in 2010. They are currently in the studio working on new material. They are playing the Australian Soundwave Festival which kicks off February 26 in Brisbane and concludes March 7 in Perth.
Some of the projects Lane has recorded and/or performed on include The Uptones, The Freaky Executives, Primus, Alphabet Soup, Charlie Hunter Trio, Bob Weir and RatDog, Sausage, The Band of Brotherz, and Further.
Lane joins a list of prominent Hammerax endorsers such as Marco Giovino (touring with Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame) Omar Hakim (Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Madonna) Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson, KTU, Stick Men) Terry Bozzio (Missing Persons, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck) Walfredo Reyes (Santana, Lindsey Buckingham, Jackson Browne) Will Calhoun (Living Color, Mos Def, Herb Alpert) Evelyn Glennie (Solo, Bjork) Jim Keltner (Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr) Bashiri Johnson (Michael Jackson, Sting, Whitney Houston) and KJ Sawka (solo, Pendulum).

Re: Primus Drummer Jay Lane Endorses Hammerax Cymbals So this is a plug for Hammerax.
In doing some research on the web, it appears that they are currently in the middle of a big endorsement push to become a bigger player in the cymbal market.
Personally I do not know a thing about them, and no one in this area carries them. If any of you Drumset Connect guys and gals out there play them, write up a little blurb and let us know what you think of them. I've played and used many brands - Zildjian, Paiste, Sabian, Wuhan, Saluda, Meinl, Dream, Bosphorus, but never Hammerax.
Hence the endorsement push I suppose... No offense to them, but I have never made a decision on percussion equipment based on published product endorsements - cymbals in particular.

| We preach this here to no end. You would be suprised the guys I have run into over the years who do exactly that and end up with a less than desirable outcome, and some of them were too headstrong to admit they made a mistake and continued to use the equipment. |

Re: Primus Drummer Jay Lane Endorses Hammerax Cymbals Hammerax do make some interesting effects peices but i've not heard a staple hat, crash, ride, splash or china from them.
I've recently been doing some research into ufip and am very close to switching from paiste to them.
With regards to Primus, the went on hiatus after the antipop record and Brain went onto other projects including one of the guns n roses reunion tours. I also loved his drumming. The two times I've seen primus were with him and he has a phenominal mix of power and speed. On the Antipop tour in perth the band opened with a short slice of Zeps Dazed and confused. Brain totally tore that track a new one. Think John Bohnam on extacy.
After that the band was rejoined by Herb the previous drummer for a new ep and a tour. Now Jay Lane has officially joined the band for this tour. I beleive he contributed some drumming to the seas of cheese record which also featured herb and brain.
I hope to see the new incarnation when they arrive here in march for the soundwave festival. |

Re: Primus Drummer Jay Lane Endorses Hammerax Cymbals Nobody touches Herb... Primus without Herb is like trying to get TOOL without Danny or having RUSH without Niel. It shouldn't be done.
As for UFIP.... Be careful. I got excited by them for a while. I started using them on an off but I found them to be incredibly fragile. I've played for a long time and have good technique. I break 1 cymbal every 3 or 4 years on average. The UFIPs I got sounded good and they were cool, but 5 of the 6 that I bought broke within the first year. That's completely unheard of for me. You might wanna keep that in mind before making wholesale changes To your setup. As much as I liked them initially, I had to give up on them because they weren't dependable. Just so you know..... |

Re: Primus Drummer Jay Lane Endorses Hammerax Cymbals There has been some great replies on Hammerax Cymbals so far!
Product endorsements are a very important part of some professional drummers/percussionist package - I myself was endorsed by Corder Drums of Huntsville AL before they were purchased by Fibes. But caution should be used - don't blindly accept that all endorsed products and brands are of high quality - my Corder kit was custom built to my touring demands.
If a manufacturer, such as Hammerax, comes on this open forum to promote their products - as Hammerax has 3 times in 2011 - then we should hold their products up to an open dialogue. I think this promotes good discussions and percussion product knowledge!
