Go to their websites and check out some mpeg samples.

Or better still, go to a drum shop and try them.

Let your ears be the judge.

Check out your favorite drummers set ups. I have a lot of meinl and sabian drummers in my list.

OK to make some drummers Idols as far as getting into drumming at first. But in the end you have to be you.

For example, in my yester-years, my Idols were Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Carmine Appice, Animal (from the Muppets) Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and so on.

But as I got older, I became me, with my own styles in drumming.

Good luck to you on your quest and happy drumming.

One thing I've noticed about zildjians is they're very inconsistent. I've tried two of the same cymbal instore and and found nothing similar about them so it's a real lucky dip to find the right cymbal. Also their cheap lines (zbt and planet z) sound terrible. I would totally recommend paiste pst's in this category. Do your homework, play the cymbals then decide.

If you are having a hard time choosing between Zildjian and Meinl, choose both. Mix them to find the right sound you want.
