i have recently got back in to playing after a very long break, so i want to change my style. i have used a standard rt over lt hand playing straight on the hi hats, i am now trying to play open hand on the hi hat with broken grooves. this is hard/ im having to relearn almost everything . anyone have any tricks or routines to help with this, i fell if i can master playing open hand it will greatly improve everthing.... thanks Dan

I started practicing open handed about a year ago.
Just keep doing it.
There are no particular short-cuts.
I found that playing to something I am already familiar with is easiest (naturally).

I'm using a second hat because I haven't sold the stand yet. I am at least experimenting with it in tribalish beats, played with my second floor tom.
