For hard rock. I use a
Sabian Rock Ride. It's a 22 inch. I bought it in 1985 sometime. Lots of ping, a good bell, and you can still build up some wash with the shoulder of the stick without completely losing definition when using the tip.
The
Zildjian version is basically identical.
I saw a Z3 one with a big bell recently that really impressed me.
I prefer medium weight crash cymbals myself. I have an 18"
Paiste 2002 crash (not the one they call medium, which is actually a little heavier than medium), a 17"
Zildjian Z3 medium crash and an 18" A.
Zildjian medium crash.
