china too loud

I have an 18" china, and when I'm playing without my earprotection at concerts, my china is so loud. I have tried other chinas, and they're loud, too, compared to the other cymbals and drums. Are the chinas ment to be so loud in the larger sizes? I have seen many drummers like Chad Smith hitting their china very hard when their playing, and in that case it doesn't sound too loud to me.

thanks for your opinions

I guess the best way to say this is chinas are loud and that is their job to be loud and trashy.
I have found that you will find a huge diffrince when you start playing with a nice loud band and they will sound better than they do all by themselves.
I would hold on to it for a while and try and incorporatet into your music, and you will get used to it after a while.
I have 2 on my kit and they are get for accents in music or if you are trying to put in somthing that fits and exact peice of music or even as just an effect, I sometimes use mallets on mine to get an almost gong sound out of it, so keep using it and see where it takes you.

if the china's are too loud, then i would ask you to get a smaller one, or place it at a point where it doesn't really attack your ear drum.
