who here has ever played on or owned a earth ride

when I was younger some one gave me a zildjian 22" earth ride, at first I thought it was the coolest thing but after a while I really started to not like it and then I sould it.
kinda wish I still had it, it was loud and ugly somthing bad but it would be great to have sometimes.
biggest issue was it was heavy and after you were done playing on it you wernt sure if it was the ride that was still ringing or your ears

lets hear your stories if you have them.

I own a 20" Earth Ride but haven't really used it for a long time. It's a real beast, I used to crash it really hard for an industrial sounding clang. The bell's nice and defined and could cut through solid steel.

I'm sure it actually helped me out, I used to play really heavy hi-hats that effected the hearing in my left ear - the Earth Ride helped balance things out by parially deafening me in the right ear. Plus it's helped me build some muscle by being extremely heavy. I have some pics somewhere, it's a raw looking monster.

After a while I started getting interested in different ride sounds and the 20" K took over, the Earth Ride doesn't see much action these days but I still like to have a session with her now and again.

I think I have to agree with you on the balncing things out part, I was a young drummer at the time when I thought that if you wernt playing hard you wernt playing right (boy how dumb i was) so I beat the crap out of my
pearl hi-hats( they came with the kit) and it equeled out about the same as well

Had it, sold it, mis it (sometimes)

Well, when I started playing I bought a 20" earth ride as the ping was second to none. Solid bell, crisp and clear sound. The military should probably use them to add extra armour to their vehicles though as they are soooo heavy which, when I started playing more modern pop/indie rock, I lost interest and needed a ride that could wash and crash out. So I bought a Zildjian A Custom Ride and love it, though it has little ping, so in hindsight, maybe I should have kept the Earth for a ping and used the A Custom for the wash??? Takes too much space to have two rides though???
