Re: Putting rivets in splash

If you mean rivets as in the cushions? I try to put at least two on them so its not loose but not to much. I like my spashes to be quick but loud.

Re: Putting rivets in splash

Someone mentioned it earlier in this tread. Reffering to China's with Rivets. Wuhan offers it's 16", 18" ,20" and 22" China's with rivets as an option.

Re: Putting rivets in splash

Hey I´ve been looking in the web for some information about rivets (never heard them before) and I don´t quite understand how the work. I think they are supposed to vibrate with the cymbal and make like a shhhh sound while doing it; but I´m not sure. Also some people say you have to drill it into your cymbal and other to glue it or paste it.
Can someone help me? hehehe thanks

Re: Putting rivets in splash

You DON"T paste or glue rivets on anything.

Go to places like ASK.com or ABOUT.com for questions like these.

First: You need to know how to use a rivet gun.

Second: Use Brass Rivets, never use two different types of metals together (that will cause corrosion, so nether put two different types of metals together).

Third: If you don't know what a rivet looks like, go to your local Hardware Store and ask about it. They want to sell stuff anyway, so They'll be more than happy to show you the rivet gun also.

Fourth: The type of rivet you'll be looking for is the "POP RIVET" in brass type. Not the Press rivet type, that's another animal and is harder to install anyway. Those are installed by the manufacturers with a Riveting Machine.

Fifth: When installing them, you need to size up the Drill Bit that will allow the small diameter of the rivet to clear the hole you drill into the cymbal.

Sixth: Pass the rivet through the drilled hole and place the rivet gun over the stem of the pop rivet.
("DON"T" squeeze the trigger all the way or you'll have to drill out the rivet and start over again.) Only squeeze the trigger enough to bulge the rivet about 1/4" form the cymbals bottom.

Seventh: With a pair Diagonal Cutting Pliers, cut off the access off the stem on top of the rivet.

You can do this geometrically even around the cymbal in an even fashion. So measure and decide and mark where your going to install the rivets.

Note: If you go to SEARS, you'll get all the help and info you'll need to familiarize yourself with the tools and parts.

I hope this helps you to enlighten you in this subject.

Suggestion: Try this out first on some scrap metals to practice on to get used to using this tool. Believe it or not, Rivets are a bases of the foundation in Manufacturing still today in this great country of ours. Riveting in itself is a profession today in many aspects whether it be Bridge building, Sky Scrapers, Auto Industry and Appliances. Rivets are all around you in your everyday life.

We would probably still be in the Stone Age if it wasn't for Rivets today.

Re: Putting rivets in splash

Thank you very much, this really helped me to understand the function of rivets and exactly how to install them. I´m sorry if I put my question in the wrong place, I know the thread isn´t about rivets theory :s
Once again thank you.

Re: Putting rivets in splash

No, your on the right thread Pinkon.

"Putting rivets in splash" was the original question.

Just glad to be of some help. Not every Drummer is mechanically inclined.
