This one is new to me - I've never seen rivets in a splash cymbal. Rides, crash rides, even hi-hats, yes - but not a splash.

If you don't mind my asking, what has prompted you to try this? Did you see someone else doing it, or did the thought just occur to you?

If I were to try this, I'd actually go buy a cheap-o splash to experiment on first, and I'd start with just one rivet, try it, and if needed add one or more from there. I also don't know if I'd put all of the rivets together, or space them evenly around the circumference of the cymbal. Maybe i'd buy two cheap-o splashes to experiment on!

Whatever you do, please do report back with your results - it sounds like a very interesting project!

I would just try one. Splashes dont have alot of volume, so you dont need that much sizzle.

I got a Saluda SSX Power 8" splash (discontinued model). I've had it for 3 years and it's just siiting there, I don't like the sound of it. So, I decided to order some Zildjian rivets and put them in it. (I play in a small Mobile Music Ministry and have wanted a sizzle sound for a while. Since the group plays a lot I don't want to add a large cymbal with rivets. I have enough to carry around as is. I will post pictures when I get it finished.

Malletjazz (I came up with this all on my own.)

Not the effect I had hoped for. It sounds aweful.

Re: Putting rivets in splash

Nothing wrong with experimenting. I've got a 22" Zildjian Sizzler for Jazz playing. Who know if you keep up with the experiments, and it works, remember to get a patent before some else does. You may come up with something worth money there.

Hey Myner rivets are pressed not screwed on.
