should you hit a splash as hard as your other symbals


i just got a 10" splash symbal and ive already dented it (not much just a lil on the edge) though keep in mind im a very hard hitter... so should i calm down on the splash?

Totally. I've had the same 10" splash since I started 9 years ago, and it's still not dented. I busted a lot of cymbals when I was starting until I learnt some proper techniques. Loosen the nut on the cymbal, swipe it sideways instead of hammering it and use your wrists instead of your forearm.

Keep in mind that a splash will never be as loud as a 16 or 18 inch crash. You shouldnt have to hit a splash that hard to get its maximum sound (which isnt that loud). So, I wouldnt be hitting it full force.

But skinslapper is right, with proper technique its really hard to break a cymbal.

loosen it a lil bit my 10" is barrelly loose at all (might be I never break cymbals,besides my "trash trash crash china")it made a better sound, and i play extra thins.
