zildjian or paiste i'm looking into some new cymbals and have narrowed it down to some zildjian k's or some paiste sigs. Could someone explain the difference in sound and what would be the best, in general for funk, rock, and a little blues and jam band type stuff. |

| | | Good advice ekdrummer, try them out. The k's are darker and the signatures have more shimmer, but i would consider both good all purpose cymbals, depends entirely on your circumstance, taste and preference. Often i hear a cymbal sound live or on a recording and use that as a ball park when i find out what it was. Most drummers are brand orientated, myself i go for what my ears and gut tells me, so my cymbal set is a mixture. |

| | Neither Zildjian nor Paiste. Go Sabian... Try out the AAX or HHX series if your budget allows it; they have all the Cymbals you need for the kind of music you play. For blues and jammin', I highly recommend Sabian's 20" Hand Hammered Classic Ride, you won't regret it, believe me! But do follow Ekdrummer's advice: go to your local store and try them out... |

| | AAX are closer to Signatures and HH to K's depending on model of course. Meinl are making some good quality cymbals now too, and worth checking out if there is an opportunity.
Best to try them, so many choices. |

| | Its impossible to distinguish at the level of K and Sig in sonic quality. Both have unique characters and inherent traits. I prefer Paiste Sigs because they are the most versatile in all aspects from death metal to jazz, live to studio. They appeal to me and once players who try them out usually agree. Its hard to describe the difference but an attempt would be this beautiful sound that creates a feeling of wanting to use them a lot.The K's just don't have that special sound.
To add. You don't mount a cymbal like this on average stands, to appreciate the cymbal it needs to be mounted on the equivalent quality hardware to do them glory.... |

I was taught by the late session ace Larrie Londin and have been instructed by percussionist Richie Gajate Garcia,i have won regional drum competitions here in my state, if i ever get the time,i will post a vid of me playing just to prove my point, and last i started playing when i was 8 and i am 40 now,so that gives you an idea of how long i have been doing this.
