What iv'e done is squirrel my gig money along with a wish list, Having a stash is great for when that one that can't get away comes along.
Then i just work on this concept...hmmmm that #crash looks tasty for me $500.
5 gigs @ 100 later and iv'e got it.
By doing this i take my mind off playing for money and it helped to concentrate and enjoy the gigs, cause i know that in four more gigs i'm going to get that kick ass sweet cymbal
Also with a bit of time to consider what you are buying like a good tattoo you can weigh up the good and bad points, you may just change your mind. This is a common affliction of any drummer with cymbalitis.
Hey if you don't gig, now there's an incentive
Then if you wife wants your gig money, suggest taking up golf. A new set of clubs sitting in the corner unused and when you do, there is club fees, green fees, beer money, gas money and $$ worth of lost balls each time you head out $$
Now and again i'll dig into my stash when the wish list is down a bit, and buy the good lady a surprise present making sure she knows it come from going out late at nights slogging away at the drums. A bit like whiskey, do you think i'm having fun drinking this
Drumming has to be the most productive hobby out there.
