How Meny??? For small jazz gigs I use; 1 standard hi-hat with 14" A zildjian, 1-16" Paiste Sig.
crash & 1-20" Paiste Sig ride. A 5"x14" snare, 8"x10" tom, 14"x16" tom, & the 18"x22" bass. Works great.
For larger groups; (left to right from throne) 1-16" Paiste Sig Crash, 1-18" Paiste Sig Crash / Ride, 1-14" A Zildjian on DW cable hat, 1-12" Paiste Sig Splash, 1-14" Sabian 14" Crash, 1-15" A Zildjian on DW cable hat, 1-20" Paiste Sig Ride, & 1-17" Paiste Sig Crash.
Drums ( from left to right) 13" & 14" Timbales, 7"x8" tom, 8"x10" tom, 9"x12" tom, 12"x14"tom,
14"x16"tom, & 18"x22" bass. For the larger set-up, I'd like to add an 8" & 10" splash. |

| | | Many gigs will dictate the amount you can set up as stage space becomes a premium. For this reason (and bass drum slip) i have a floor mat which i place down pre set up to claim my stage space, it is cut to the size my kit fits on. There are ways around more cymbals in less space by using cymbal stackers and inward mounted cymbals. More to the point though is set up time, often there is not much of a window to get set up at some venues, so less gear takes away some of that hassle.
( unless you have a personal roadie/ drum tech that is). I have all of my stands and cymbal arms memory locked, saves a heap of time.
You can cover a lot of ground with minimal quality general purpose cymbals such as Sigs, 2002's A's etc. To the average audiance they just hear something musical ( unless it's a bad cymbal, or bad cymbal choice to play in the wrong place) that accents in the music and likely aren't too concerned or particular whether it was a med thin or whatever, as any drummer does.
Listen to any music in general and see what i mean.

They haven't changed much over the years, except the clubs are a lot lighter.
Any way, the reason I'm sending this message is-- What the heck is a poonage??? I've heard a lot of words that were similar. Most of them ended in "Tang". But---"Poonage"???????????????? |
