Set vs individual cymbals

Hey...I need some new cymbals...but I'm not sure whether to get them in a set....or just to buy them individually...

It'll cost more individually obviously...but...I guess I could get cymbals I reallly like? (The AA Performance Rock has pretty much all the cymbals I'd want anyways tho...maybe a bigger crash)

It would probably be easier just to get the pack if they have the cymbals you want already. If you want to get different effects cymbals you can always get them at a later time when you have more money. I've noticed lately that the effects cymbals (splash and China) aren't normally that costly.

I think packs make everything a lot easier. All the cymbals match in appearance and sound and its cheaper. But if I had the money and time I would probably try out as many cymbals as possible and blend the ones I liked. You can always buy a pack and with the money you save buy an extra cymbal.

Just 1 please

My vote would be to get one at a time. The primary reason is that YOU get to choose the sound of each of each and every cymbal. Not some dude in a warehouse that could give a rat's rear end what they sound like. It's YOUR money and YOUR ears that you are really concerned about. The small monetary difference probably won't be that significant. If nothing else--ask the dealer for a better price if you get more than one cymbal. He wants to make a nice sale
just as bad as you want the cymbals of your choice.

For a beginner drummer i would go for the learner sets. As you advance and have some money behind you, you can then discover the cymbal sounds out there to add or improve what you have. Kept in good order they have good resale especially if included in a kit upgrade.

Warning cymbals can be addictive and mind boggling as there are too many choices, but all the same amazing and fun instruments.

Thumbs up

When I was looking for cymbals I went and tried several different makes, I liked the sound of the Sabian AAX Stage and saved a lot of money by buying the set on offer. I also bought a Plosion Crash and 10" Splash.........

I usually prefer the thrill of the hunt. Finding and buying all my cymbals individually. But thats because I am suuper picky about my sound. But, with a set, you usually get a good value. And if you dig all the cymbals, a nice matched set up. But, if you buy the pack and the ride maybe isnt up to snuff, you gotta trade it off or sell it. Either way has its pros and cons.

Re: Set vs individual cymbals

Hi I saw your ad and am having the same thoughts. I have been looking at cymbals on line now for 3 weeks and am finding that the only way that I'm going to be happy is to listen to each cymbal and take it from there and I bet you won't find what you want in a kit, people's tastes are different that's why you have to try them out yourself and not count on a cymbal pack.I don't know where you live but if you are near a Guitar Center the cymbals there when it comes to new ones are the same as E-Bay after you ad in shipping costs,I know because that's probably where I'll be buying them, the new ones anyway. GOOD LUCK YOU'LL BE OKAY!!
