22" Zildjian Ping Ride

Hey, i have a buddy at school, who is selling his 22" ping ride, for 180 bucks. I was actually looking at buying some new cymbals and i heard highly of this cymbal, now i have some questions if some of you folks could answer.

- How will the large 22" sound have a difference to a 20"?
- Is 180 bucks for this cymbal good? (barely been used)
- Is this ride good for crashing also?
- I play some light indie (colour revolt, brand new) but also more rock stuff like saosin/alexisonfire/moneen, will this ride do the trick?

thanks a lot!

If it's an A ,it reviews well if any help.

You should try it beside the 20" and see what difference it has.
Never played one of these but the bigger cymbals are sometimes surprisingly better than 20" for crashing. I have a 21 sweet ride and it's more crashable than any 20" iv'e played. Bottom line is you have to try for yourself.
If it's an A and as new, is looks cheaper than the the retail price so a good buy, but do you want the cymbal ???

Check out the Zildjian web sight, they have demos of both the 20" 22" and the A sweet ride, for instants Ive heard the 20" A custom ping you can crash. test it out with ur presant kit, because he can go to your house
(I dont think you live in the music store, I Used some hats from a local music halls because i forgot mine(not relly) and it helped).

Just play this cymbal with your set and other cymbals. If you like the sound BUY IT. If not PASS. It's not designed to be a crash. If you're looking for a large crash, look elsewhere. Good luck. Should be one h*ll of a nice cymbal if the sound is right for your ears.

Re: 22" Zildjian Ping Ride

The price is excellent........a steal actually. I've always viewed the Ping cymbal as a jazz ride cymbal because of the stick definition coupled with the utter lack of wash. I have always been attracted to the cymbal because I love a cymbal with a lot of stick definition. Jazz is my favorite style of music............especially as a drummer.

If you are playing rock primarily, I would not invest in this cymbal unless you want to buy it at this excellent price and then maybe resell it for a profit. I believe you will find that the cymbal's lack of wash and undertones will prove too dry for playing loud rock music. IMO.

Re: 22" Zildjian Ping Ride

I had always wanted a Ping cymbal as my main ride cymbal. When I bought my drumset, I allowed the salesman to talk me out of a Ping and into a Sweet Ride. He said that the Sweet Ride would be much more versatile for all types of music.

Personally, I find the Sweet Ride to be much more "washy" than the Ping. I mean, it has a great wash with lots of bright overtones and IMO, is a great rock ride cymbal BUT, I wanted the Ping cymbal because it has such a nice stick definition and a great bell on which to play. So now, years later, i JUST BOUGHT A PING on e-bay and am excitedly awaiting its' arrival. Bottom line: I don't find the Sweet Ride to be anything like the Ping cymbal and most importantly, it is what YOU WANT IN A CYMBAL AND FROM A CYMBAL that's important. I will finally have the ride cymbal I always wanted once my Ping arrives...............and yes, I will most likely include my sweet ride or one of the other ride cymbals I have, in my setup most times..........just so's I can have that wash if I want it......................but my Ping will most likely always be my favorite...........right up there with my Hi Definition Zildjian..........which also has great stick def. but with a bit more wash than the Ping. BTW - I too always thought of the Ping to be more for jazz BUT then I read where the drummer for The Black Crowes plays one and I love the sound and feel of his playing...............so it's a cymbal for all genres if you ask me.

I ping on a Zildjian 22".
It's a very versatile ride.
I sometimes use the butt of the stick for a darker-less-pingy sound.
...and bell really cuts through too.
